The UK remains a world-leader in offender management and rehabilitation. However, recent figures released by the Ministry of Justice showed that the 75% of adults arrested during the civil unrest that swept Britain in August had previous criminal convictions. This highlights a need for an overhaul in the punishment and sentencing of offenders.
With this in mind we are pleased to announce that Luke Edwards, Deputy Director, Justice Policy Group, Ministry of Justice will join an array of expert speakers confirmed to speak at this highly topical forum.
CONFIRMED SPEAKER: Mr Edwards opening keynote titled, 'Breaking the Cycle - The Government’s Vision for Offender Management Reform' will explore the following interesting topics:
- The government green paper 'Breaking the Cycle: Effective Punishment, Rehabilitation and Sentencing of Offenders'
- Overhauling punishment and sentencing
- Changing the approach to rehabilitation - addressing offenders' health and social problems
- Widening the provision of services - creating cross-sector partnerships and improving efficiency
- Private and third sector involvement - inspiring innovation and payment by results
- Funding for services – harnessing the potential of private sources
Furthermore, this important and pertinent forum will offer delegates the opportunity to better understand the government’s vision for offender management reform, explore new opportunities to access funding through 'payment-by-results' schemes and look at the opportunities for partnerships with the private sector and charities. Delegates will have the opportunity to network, learn and engage with unique, expert contributors and peers from a variety of stakeholders in offender management.
