Thursday 8 September 2011

Guest of Honour: Jonathan Bamford, Head of Strategic Liaison, Information Commissioner's Office

This seminar will provide a timely examination of key provisions outlined in the Protection of Freedoms Bill regarding surveillance, data collection and the vetting and barring system, as Government looks to redress the balance between personal privacy and public security. Scheduled to take place as the Bill reaches the House of Lords committee stage, this seminar will bring together key policymakers and stakeholders to discuss the impact of proposals. Sessions will focus on issues surrounding the regulation and use of DNA data collection and CCTV images, exploring the function of such information in the prosecution of criminal acts; the remit of the proposed Surveillance Camera Commissioner and the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice; the impact of the Bill on Data Protection and the implications for vulnerable groups, employees and employers of scaling back and amending the vetting and barring scheme.
