Working in partnership the Southwark Hate Crime Working Group (HCWG) have been developing ideas on how Southwark might address issues regarding the under reporting of hate crimes
We believe a significant step forwards in beginning to raise hate crimes on people’s awareness would be to hold an event to:
- reenergise the hate crime agenda
- promote the support services available
- encourage communities to work together to tackle the issue, and
- encourage people to approach services when required
The HCWG has been working with 5 main themes with specially invited speakers to give a flavour of current work taking place, the themes identified are:
- Restorative Justice
- Guidance and legislation that supports the hate crime work
- ‘Mate’ Crime (crime aimed at vulnerable people)
- Work with young people
- Information on the national organisation Stop Hate UK
- Positive outcomes
The event will take place on Thursday 30th June in rooms G0A, B and C at Tooley St starting at 10 am with a free networking lunch at 1 pm at the end of the event.
All welcome to attend, and help continue build a network of individuals and communities working together to tackle hate crime.
