Working in Partnership to Tackle Forced Marriage and Honour Based Violence

Wednesday 11 May 2011

Central London

Whilst significant progress has been made over the last decade in exposing and addressing forced marriage, HBV and FGM, a huge rise in the number of crimes reported and recorded highlights the urgent need to establish a robust framework to tackle and prevent these crimes and ensure co-ordinated, comprehensive and consistent responses at the local level.

With the recent launch of the Government's action plan to tackle violence against women and girls, this special symposium offers a timely opportunity for practitioners across the police, education, social and health services to:

  • Understand the legal and policy framework for tackling FM, HBV and FGM

  • Discuss how to raise awareness and identification of FM, HBV and FGM amongst the public and practitioners

  • Explore how to overcome sensitive cultural barriers to challenge FM, HBV and FGM and promote the rights of victims

  • Examine how to improve the protection, support and services available to victims

For further details about the symposium, please refer to the event brochure.
