Nacro, the crime reduction charity has welcomed the announcement of the first early intervention pilot in Nottingham. Commenting, Paul Cavadino, Nacro’s Chief Executive, said: “Putting more resources into preventing crime makes much more sense than waiting until children offend and then having to spend enormous sums on processing them through the penal system. “Support for families under stress is crucial to reducing crime and we are delighted that the Government has recognised the voluntary sector’s role in providing this support. “Nacro’s own work supporting families in Nottingham has already shown that it can have successful results in preventing children wasting their lives in criminal behaviour.” ENDS Notes to editors Nacro’s Young People and Families Centre in Bulwell, Nottingham offers a wide range of services for families needing additional support. The centre runs the following projects:
Parenting Solutions
Filling the Gap (for young people aged 13 to 16 missing out on mainstream schooling)
Be Safe (an accredited sexual responsibility course for young men)
New Initiative (a temporary alternative education programme for 11 to 13 year olds)
Nacro NEET (for 16 to 18 year olds not in education, employment or training)
a Youth Inclusion Project (YIP) providing positive activities and interventions for young people at risk of criminal behaviour.
