The Justice Awards began in 2004 to recognise the outstanding achievements of staff and volunteers working at the front line of criminal justice.
Ten teams and individuals from NOMS have made it into the finals of the Justice Awards 2009.
They are:
Carl Clements, HMYOI Feltham - Tackling Youth Crime (individual award)
Dave Asker – Head of Learning and Skills, HMP Wandsworth - Working with Offenders (individual award)
Diversity Department, HMP Brixton - Commitment to Diversity (team award)
Morina Pierre, HMP Chelmsford - Commitment to Diversity (individual award)
Children and Families Enterprise Project, Kent Probation - Working with Offenders (team award)
Christine Noon and Dermot Brady, London Probation - Working with Offenders (team award)
Community Domestic Abuse Programme, Kent Probation - Partnership of the year (team award)
Female Offenders - the Education, Training and Employment Team, Dorset Probation - Commitment to Diversity (team award)
Liam Maidment, South Wales Probation - Working with Offenders (individual award)
Martin Barrett, Kent Probation - Volunteer of the year (individual award)
Many previous winners and runners-up have said that taking part has changed their lives, often increasing the profile of their work and helping them to achieve more in their chosen field.
Last year's winner of the Working with Offenders awards – Prison Officer Sue Gibson – said: “I never, never expected to win it. I'm absolutely amazed because I enjoy my job and find it very rewarding.”
