Relaunching the CJP

The re-launch of the Community Justice Portal exemplifies the pace of technological change happening all around us. Its new flexible and expanded platform allows us to offer you even more. And now six years on we hope that professionals in the field - probation, prison, police, courts staff, voluntary sector and the public - will be able to access the Portal in ways which was not possible in 2002. Professionals at their workplace have not always been provided with the access they need to the potential riches of the internet.  Security concerns whilst important have often prevented real engagement with the WWW. It has been a struggle to enable offenders to access the internet in ways which could productively enhance learning and employment opportunities. Information technology in criminal justice has not brought universal benefits. Many expensive IT systems, CRAMS, C-NOMIS etc have come and failed and the government must learn the lessons from its failures. The expansion of information can simply lead to information overload. Let the Community Justice Portal help organise the information for you in a one-stop shop so you can concentrate on your own contributions towards the ultimate goal of a just and fair community justice system.
