The Butler Trust Award is being extended to the Youth Justice system for the first time this year - extending as far as volunteers!

Nominations will open from April 12th, with a closing date of 28th May. If you think one of your fellow volunteers or practitioners has made a significant contribution in the field of youth offending panels, why not consider nominating them?

Skills for Justice are organising the launch event for piloting the Restorative Practice Award on 1st April in London after massive consultation (flyer attached). This prestigious programme will be open to  volunteers and practitioners from a wide variety of settings.

The nationally recognised qualification will be a competence-based award approved onto the Qualifications and Credit Framework. It will recognise the skills and knowledge needed in order to work effectively in a restorative practice environment. Places at the information workshop are strictly limited. If you are interested in progressing the award, contact linda.millington@skillsforjustice.com  or on 07795 815781.

An excellent publication from the Communications Trust addresses, for the first time, the communications needs of children in the CJS and how we as Panel Members might  approach them. Preview the booklet here .

The Council of Europe has written guidelines to protect children’s rights in the Justice system and wants to find out about children and young people’s views and experiences before publication. This survey should be completed by 31st March 2010.
